Heart Kids SA is a non-profit voluntary organisation, which provides mutual support and assistance for South Australian families with children who have congenital heart or other cardiac conditions. Heart Kids SA provides information and resource material for these families and non-financial assistance to associated agencies; and promotes community awareness about its children and teenagers .

Simply put, Heart Kids SA is about providing mutual support for parents and giving them an opportunity to discuss aspects of their children's health. It gives parents with heart conditions someone to talk to. This is often done by organising a limited number of events for the children to mix and socialise with children that have similar conditions.

Heart Kids SA events include coffee mornings , outings and movie previews. Most of these events are of a passive nature due to the condition of our children/teenagers. A feature event each year is the Christmas Party where the kids enjoy a lovely day full of events and of course Santa!

Our committee is elected each year consisting of a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and committee members.

In recent years, our committee has successfully reduced the burden on families by abolishing membership fees and pursuing support through corporate groups. Particular mention must be made of the ongoing support of the Heart Foundation of South Australia and the fundraising efforts of the World Bow Tie Club. The Heart Kids of SA Committee intends to develop even stronger ties with the Women's and Children's Hospital and other clinics. Heart Kids SA knows too well the stress that parents go through upon the initial news of their child's cardiac condition. Just listening and providing reassurance together with some information can be invaluable to parents under stress -if the parent requires this.

Other issues for the future include adolescents with heart conditions, and make Heart Kids more than just for the young ones. This is particularly relevant when additional surgery for teenagers is pending. Other directions where the Heart Kids Committee is moving, is the facilitation of limited fundraising for special equipment and limited (but pertinent) research into the causes and related scenarios of pediatric cardiology.
